See the greatest masterpieces of:
Raphael, Bernini, Caravaggio, Titian, Lanfrano, Domenichino, Bellini, Coreggio, Peter Paul Rubens
and many, many more ...
On this tour, in addition to the wonders of the Villa Borghese, we take the opportunity to take our small group
inside the
Church of Santa Maria del Popolo. Here, we whet the appetite for the Borghese Gallery,
as this church is sumptuously decorated with works of the very greatest Renaissance and Baroque masters.
The highlights of this visit are Caravaggio's
Conversion of St. Paul and
Cruxifixion of St. Peter, and Bernini's sculptures
Habakkuk and the Angel and
Daniel and the Lion.
In addition to Caravaggio and other artist's works in the various chapels of this unique church,
there are several burial chapels, purchased by the wealthiest and most powerful families in 16th and 17th-century Rome,
who commissioned great artists to design and decorate their tombs. The most famous chapel here, familiar to Dan Brown readers,
is the Chigi Chapel, designed by Raphael and decorated by Bernini - the first "Altar of Science" in
Angels and Demons!
From here, we proceed through the Borghese Gardens, taking the scenic route from the Piazza del Popolo to the
Borghese Gallery.
