The perfect way to orientate yourself with the
city upon arrival!
We begin our tour at the Santa Maria Sopra Minerva
Church, and finish at Piazza Navona, close to the best restaurants and the best
atmosphere night-time Rome has to offer.
On the way, you will see the famous Trevi Fountain,
where Enita Eckberg waded into the waters in Federico Fellini’s classic film,
La Dolce Vita. We also visit the beautiful Campidoglio, designed by
Michelangelo in his old age, from where you can enjoy a wonderful night-time
view of the Roman Forum and Colosseum.
We also bring you to the Sacred Area, a 20th-century
archaeological discovery of 4 1st-century BC pagan temples beneath one of the
busiest squares in Rome today, and close to the site where Julius Caesar was
murdered. This site is now better known for its modern purpose, as Rome’s Cat
Sanctuary!
Also included are the famous monuments from Ancient Rome
– the Pantheon and the Column of Marcus Aurelius.
Your guide will explain the secrets, history and
legends behind the monuments, and show you the ones you didn't know were there!
We finish our tour at Bernini’s Fountain of Four
Rivers (featured in Dan Brown’s novel Angels and Demons), situated in the
lively yet peaceful Baroque square, Piazza Navona.
The tour is designed to show you Rome from all its
ages, and the highlights of the tour date from all the great periods –
Republican, Imperial, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, 18th-century and the
Modern era of independent Italy, symbolised by the majestic Victor Emmanuel
Monument.
Our guides will explain the history and significance of the monuments,
fountains, piazzas and buildings, and show you the best shopping areas and
places to eat.
We recommend this tour as an introduction to Rome, which will help you
plan the rest of your itinerary.
As well as being a great way to get some tips on the
great places to go for dinner, gelato etc and how to avoid the tourist traps
and scams, this tour will show you the story of Rome you didn't know. When
taken with our other tours, you will have a greater appreciation of the history
of the Eternal City, and how everything is linked together.
