Colosseum Underground Tour (Limited Availability)

Colosseum Underground (Hypogeum) is the most restricted part of the Colosseum, and availability is extremely limited.

If Arena access is your priority, our Colosseum Arena Floor Semi-Private Tour (max 6) offers guaranteed Arena Floor tickets on selected dates.

Before you request Underground

Underground access isn’t released like standard tickets, and it’s often unavailable even when regular Colosseum entry is widely available.

Because of this, Underground requests work a little differently:

  • We check what’s actually available for your date(s)
  • If Underground is available, we confirm and proceed
  • If it’s not available, we’ll offer the closest alternative — usually Full Experience Arena (subject to availability)

Recommended option for most guests: Arena Floor

If your main goal is a fantastic Colosseum experience with Arena access, we strongly recommend booking our Arena Floor tour instead.

It delivers the “wow” moment on the arena, plus full Colosseum admission — with far better availability than Underground.

What this tour includes

  • Colosseum Underground (Hypogeum) access, if available
  • Arena Floor access
  • Colosseum interior (ticket configuration varies)
  • Roman Forum and Palatine Hill

Highlights often include:

  • Underground service corridors where the games were prepared
  • The Arena Floor viewpoint
  • Key Roman Forum landmarks
  • Palatine Hill viewpoints over the Forum

Duration

3.5 hours.

Underground access follows stricter routing and timing inside the Colosseum, so this is typically longer than standard visits.

Meeting point

Meet outside Colosseum Metro Station by the “Casa dell’acqua di Acea” (green kiosk).
Google Maps pin

Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time.

Important: ID and name matching

All participants must bring ORIGINAL photo ID (passport, driver’s licence, or national ID).

Tickets are name-specific and non-transferable. Names must match the ID shown on entry.

Middle names are not required — we only need first and last names as they appear on the ID you’ll bring.

Accessibility note

Underground access involves stairs and uneven surfaces and is not suitable for wheelchairs.

If anyone in your group has mobility concerns, tell us before we check availability so we can guide you to the best option.
