Private Colosseum Underground Tours
Colosseum Underground access is extremely limited and request-based. Real Rome Tours offers two private options: a 2-hour Colosseum-focused Underground tour, or a 3-hour tour combining the Underground with a guided visit of the Roman Forum.
Your preferred date and time are requested first. We confirm the exact tour time only after the required Underground tickets have been secured, and no payment is taken until availability is confirmed.
Choose your Underground experience
Choose the shorter Colosseum-focused experience or add a guided visit of the Roman Forum. Both tours are private and request-only.
Underground access is released through specific official ticket channels and is more limited than standard Colosseum entry. Because of this, Underground requests need to be checked individually before they can be confirmed.

Real Rome Tours offers two private Underground options. Both are request-only and subject to official ticket availability.
Private Colosseum Underground Tour – 2 Hours
A focused private tour of the Colosseum, including the Underground and Arena Floor when confirmed.
Duration: 2 hours
Price: €595 for up to 2 people
Additional guests: €95 per adult · €75 per child
Your guided visit focuses entirely on the Colosseum. Your Full Experience ticket also includes access to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, which you may visit independently.

Private Colosseum Underground + Roman Forum Tour – 3 Hours
Combine the Colosseum Underground experience with a guided visit of the Roman Forum.
Duration: 3 hours
Price: €750 for up to 2 people
Additional guests: €95 per adult · €75 per child
When Underground access is confirmed, the Colosseum portion includes the Underground and Arena Floor. Your private guide will also take you through the Roman Forum. Your Full Experience ticket includes Palatine Hill access, which you may visit independently.

Another Option: Book Directly with Gerard Breen
Licensed tour guides may have access to additional Colosseum Underground ticket releases that are separate from the tour-operator channel.
Gerard Breen is a licensed guide who offers his own private Underground tours independently of Real Rome Tours. Booking directly with Gerard may therefore provide an additional opportunity to request Underground access when Real Rome Tours has no availability.
This is a separate service provided independently by Gerard Breen. Your request, payment, booking contract and tour will be directly with Gerard, not with Real Rome Tours.
Underground access remains subject to official ticket availability and is never guaranteed.
If Underground Isn’t Available
Underground tickets are among the most limited Colosseum tickets available, so we cannot confirm every request.
If we are unable to secure Underground access through Real Rome Tours, you may still have other options. Gerard’s independent direct-guide service above may provide an additional opportunity, or you can choose one of our private Colosseum tours including the Arena Floor.
The Arena Floor offers a dramatic view from the level where gladiators once entered the amphitheatre and is generally much easier to secure than Underground access.
An Arena tour is a separate booking option — we will never automatically change your Underground request without discussing it with you first.
What Both Tours Include
Both private Underground tours include:
- Colosseum Underground access, when confirmed
- Arena Floor access
- The main Colosseum visit with a licensed private guide
- Full Experience ticket access to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill
The difference is how that Forum/Palatine access is used:
- 2-hour tour: your guided visit focuses entirely on the Colosseum. Roman Forum and Palatine Hill access is available for you to use independently.
- 3-hour tour: your guide also accompanies you through the Roman Forum. Palatine Hill remains available for independent visiting.

Meeting Point & Arrival
Meet your guide outside Colosseum Metro Station by the Casa dell’acqua di Acea green kiosk.
We’ll confirm your exact meeting time once your Underground tickets and entry slot have been secured.
Underground ticket holders must be at the Colosseum at least 30 minutes before the assigned Underground entry time, so your confirmed meeting time will be arranged accordingly. Please follow the time stated in your final confirmation.
Important: Photo ID & Named Tickets
Colosseum Underground tickets are nominative and issued in each visitor’s name.
- Every visitor must bring original photo ID, such as a passport, driver’s licence or official national ID.
- First and last names must match the ticket exactly.
- Middle names are not required.
- Photocopies are not accepted.
- Once nominative tickets have been purchased, they are generally non-refundable and non-transferable.
Please check all participant names carefully when submitting your request.
Accessibility
The Underground route involves stairs and uneven surfaces.
If anyone in your group has mobility needs or uses a wheelchair, please tell us before we confirm tickets so we can check whether the Underground route is suitable and discuss the available options.
