Rome in a Day – See-It-All (Walking Shore Excursion)

Tour guide Max explaining the Roman Forum to guests from the Palatine Hill

Overview

This private shore excursion is designed for guests who want a more walk-focused day to experience Rome up close, with minimal time lost to logistics.

You’ll be collected at the Civitavecchia cruise port for the transfer to Rome.

In Rome, your licensed guide meets you for a full “see-it-all” walking day, planned around timed-entry availability and your ship’s return-to-port deadline.

At a glance

  • Approx. 10 hours (timed around your ship’s docking + all-aboard time)
  • Round-trip transfers between Civitavecchia and Rome
  • Licensed guide in Rome
  • Walking-focused route through Ancient Rome + the Historic Centre
  • No Vatican Museums / no Basilica entry in this version

What you’ll see

The exact order can vary depending on timed-entry availability and cruise timing, but the day is designed to cover the essentials at a realistic pace.

Typical highlights include:

  • Ancient Rome: timed entry to the Colosseum area (Colosseum + Roman Forum + Palatine Hill)
  • Historic Centre walk covering major sights (e.g., Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, Pantheon exterior, Campo de’ Fiori area, Spanish Steps, Piazza Venezia)

Important notes

  • Cruise docking time is not the same as being ready on the pier. To avoid wasted time and protect your day in Rome, we typically schedule pickup around 90 minutes after docking. If you have an assigned, guaranteed disembarkation time, tell us and we’ll plan around it.
  • Major attractions use named, timed-entry tickets. You enter at your assigned time; the only lines are standard security checks.
  • All guests must bring ORIGINAL photo ID (passport, driver’s licence, or official national ID). Names on tickets must match the ID shown. Middle names are not required.
  • Comfortable shoes are essential — it’s a full day on your feet.
  • A quick lunch stop is possible, but the cruise schedule may not allow a long sit-down meal.

FAQs

Where exactly do we meet at the cruise port?

Your driver will meet you directly at the Civitavecchia cruise terminal exit, in the arrivals area for your ship.

Is the Vatican Museums included?

No. The Walking version does not include the Vatican Museums or Sistine Chapel.

Is St Peter’s Basilica included?

No. The Walking version includes St Peter’s Square as an exterior stop (no Basilica entry in this version).

Is the Pantheon included?

Yes — as an exterior visit. Interior entry is optional via timed ticket.

Can we add Pantheon interior entry?

Yes. Pantheon interior entry is optional and can be added as a timed-entry ticket during the online request. Even with timed tickets, there can occasionally be a short wait due to on-site crowd management.

Do we go inside the Roman Forum + Palatine Hill?

When timed-entry availability and cruise timing allow, this version is designed to include Ancient Rome as a proper inside visit. The exact order and pacing may still be adjusted to protect return-to-port timing.

Do we “skip the line”?

This is outdated marketing language in Rome. Entry is by named, timed-reservation tickets — you enter at your assigned time, and there are no ticket queues. The only lines are standard security checks (quick airport-style scans); any wait is usually minimal.

What IDs do we need?

All guests must bring ORIGINAL photo ID (passport, driver’s licence, or official national ID). The first and last name on the ticket must match the ID shown. Middle names are not required.

What about lunch?

A quick lunch stop is possible, but cruise schedules don’t always allow a long sit-down meal. We’ll keep it flexible on the day.

Can we customise the day?

Yes. After you send your request, we’ll confirm what’s feasible around your ship’s timing and timed-entry availability, then finalise the plan and total price before you pay.
