Your private 4 Major Basilicas tour

Visit Rome’s four Papal Basilicas in one smooth, private half-day itinerary. With your own expert guide and a private driver, you’ll cover a lot comfortably, with time for context, photos, and quiet moments inside each church.

St Peter’s Basilica (Vatican)

Begin at St Peter’s Basilica for an introduction to the Vatican, the basilica’s history, and the art and architecture that define it. Your guide will tailor the focus to your interests — faith, history, art, or a mix.

St Paul Outside the Walls

Continue to St Paul Outside the Walls, one of Rome’s most striking basilicas — spacious, atmospheric, and often less crowded. Your guide will bring the mosaics, cloisters, and long history of the site to life.

St John Lateran

Next is St John Lateran, the cathedral of Rome and the official seat of the Pope as Bishop of Rome. Your guide will explain why this basilica matters so much historically, and what to look for inside.

St Mary Major

Finish at St Mary Major, famous for its early Christian mosaics and rich layers of history. We’ll end the tour here so you can linger inside or continue your day easily from the historic centre.

Pace, focus and customisation

Because this is a private tour, we’ll adjust the pace and emphasis to suit you — more time in one basilica, less in another, extra photo stops, or a stronger faith/history/art focus.

Practical notes

Dress code applies in all basilicas (shoulders and knees covered). Security checks may apply.

Occasionally, parts of a basilica can be restricted at short notice due to religious services or official events. If that happens, we’ll adjust the order on the day to keep the experience running smoothly.

How customisation works

After you request your date, we’ll follow up by WhatsApp or email to fine-tune the plan around your pace and interests. If you’d like more time in one basilica, a stronger focus on faith or art history, or a slightly different route, just say so — we’ll tailor the flow and timings.

FAQs

How long is the tour?

Approximately 5 hours total, including driving time between the basilicas.

Can a basilica be closed on the day (especially St Peter’s)? What happens then?

Yes — it’s rare, but it can happen. The basilicas are working churches, so access can change at short notice due to liturgical celebrations, security measures, or special events (St Peter’s is the most affected).

If we receive advance notice, we’ll contact you straight away to discuss the best alternative plan.

If there’s no notice on the day, we’ll adapt the itinerary in real time — for example by reordering the route, spending more time at the other major basilicas, or replacing the missed stop with a high-value “bonus” church nearby (such as Santa Croce in Gerusalemme).

Can we customise the pace or focus?

Yes. Because this is a private tour, we can tailor the pace and the emphasis — faith, art history, architecture, or a mix. Just tell us your preferences when you request your date.

What should we wear inside the basilicas?

A respectful dress code is required: shoulders and knees covered for both men and women. Comfortable shoes are recommended.

Is this tour suitable for families with children?

Yes — families are welcome. We’ll keep the pacing comfortable and adjust the focus so it stays engaging for children.

Is hotel pickup included?

Yes — hotel pickup and drop-off are included for accommodations within the Aurelian Walls (Rome’s historic centre). If you’re staying outside the city walls, please tell us your hotel address when you request your date and we’ll confirm the best options.
